The author asks a very poignant question when we think of where the urban multicultural youth market is heading...

Can hip hop save the world?

Wow...this is an awesome piece. Legit.

‘The Last Fiesta’ is my 12-skateboard deck shout-out to Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ with Jesus Christos and his 12 Luchador apostles getting down one last time.

I admire how skaters are free to just push in any direction. I don’t know, that’s why they make so many skateparks for free now, to stop that freedom, to get them all into a caged area.[...] Skateboarding is a total art form, there’s no way around it. If it weren’t everyone would be wearing jerseys.

One of my favorite skaters of all time...always going against the grain.

Last week I attended the Bordo Bello Skateboard Art Aution hosted by AIGA Colorado. A friend of mine, Beard Puncher, submitted a great examle of a pop cultural mash-up. It has a hint magical-realism behind it even. The concept was to take the He-Man character and re-tell his story through a cultural lense. We had some good laughs on where you could take the idea...Brilliant!

São Paulo is hosting the 'Transfer' skate art show right now. This follows on the success of an exhibition held in Porto Alegre back in 2008. It was the first show to document skate art influence in Brazil, receiving international attention.

I visited Brazil earlier this decade and a lasting impression were the artists involved in the artes-plastica-plastic arts scene. Curious to know and see how this discipline plays out in the 'Transfer' exhibition. Be worth another viaje ao Brasil!

Chile Estyle (via @elisacarmichael) #LatISM

In the words of the curator...Pablo Aravena

For the first time in North America, Chile Estyle will showcase work from a comprehensive selection from the top tier of Chile’s contemporary urban muralists.

Whilst making NEXT: A Primer on Urban Painting (Rotterdam International Film Festival 2006), my documentary film about the global culture of street art, I travelled to many of the world’s street art capitals. Upon returning to my native Chile after an eight year hiatus, I was amazed and delighted by the quality and development of the art form there. I spent time with many of the leading figures in the Chilean scene and I was able to gain and share insights and viewpoints on the global and local aspects of the movement. I realized that we Chileans had a long history in this art form and that my generation had taken those traditions and built a strong community that was rooted in our past yet evolving in the present into the future. Through my exploration of the Chilean street art world, I discovered things I did not know about my own culture and my country’s history.

Goes to show how vast the "cross-cultural" perspective goes...
