ER: #CultureMaking Saiko Full Movie 'The Iker Fernandez Documentary ' #DigitalSports #RecombinantCulture @snowplanetmag

Great documentary done on Spanish Rider Iker Fernandez...

What I found interesting is the way English and Spanish are presented in a seamless fashion. Talking about a snowboard lifestyle remix here. This is the type of digital content that will become increasingly relevant in the U.S. multicultural market.

Iker's story is awesome is because it reminds us that creative, snowboard talent can come from anywhere...

Once again culturally relevant digital snowboard content finds its way into my social news feed...via BQP

What we have here is a story that's not being directed at the right audience in in the best possible way. This will probably never see much exposure in broader Spanish language media.

Iker Fernandez rips and his experiences with the sport. Talk about generating a cross-cultural appeal to the mainstream U.S.

Wonder if Olivier Francoise should be identifying and targeting opportunities for Fiat to share under the radar advertising/marketing content in the U.S. market?

The rally like driving would have been a lot more appealing to football fans than J-Lo car chase...probably a lot less expensive too. Hope this wasn't a veiled attempt to tap into the NFL's strong interest in the Hispanic market.

I've said for a long time that technology has the opportunity to serve as a bridge between an online/offline existence. The marketing resource for cultural and lifestyle brands to attract new customers. Sports, especially snowboarding, would be able to address participant gap via new media technologies. It is after all the way to reach young urban consumers. Based on The Creators Project posting I read this morning, we aren't too far off from seeing the content that can deliver on this idea...

Step into the fray, media artist and keen snowboarder Trent Brooks who’s developed an open source project called AntiMap to take that data indexing experience to the slopes, gathering real-time rider data while you’re out skiing or snowboarding. It then analyzes your numbers and even syncs it to video footage of you riding around, so you can marvel at your sick moves while enjoying some après-ski downtime.

A year ago I was preparing for a snowboard trip to Bariloche, Argentina. It was my second Andes shred trip and was very eager to see how far the scene had progressed over the years. The riding at Cerro Catedral is off the hook and highly encourage going there if the opportunity presents itself.

The most memorable part of the trip was interacting with the growing global snowboard community. Bariloche exposed me to local athletes, brand reps, mountain guides, and snow media personalities and helped me understand Latin American snowboard market better. It's raw and full of potential as the sport goes global.

As the new cover of KomunidadSnow states, "the future" of Latin snowboard culture is bright and will continue to expand. Best part is the young kids are leading the way. This year's season started off slow due to a volcanic eruption, but in true Latin fashion, folks are brushing it off and making the best of it. Evident by the steady flow of tweets, blog, photo, and video posts coming across my feed sharing the stoke of a day on the mountain. There's still a lot to be learned from the South American snow scene.

Red Bulletin

Red Bull figured out the new media awhile ago. The Red Bulletin Magazine is a fine example. They continue to really good at keeping their brand culturally relevant in the era of transmedia.

"It really begins with the people you involve, people who are committed to the journalistic product and storytelling," said Andreas Tzortzis, its U.S. editor. "It's being willing to go to the Atacama desert for a story on scientists who stare up at the heavens or head into New Orleans to talk about brass band culture years after Katrina, as well as more obvious stories about Red Bull-sponsored athletes or events."

A little piece I wrote about my South American Snow Sessions experience in Argentina...thoughts framed from a digital retro-acculturation mindset.

Sometimes you have to shake yourself free from the doldrums of responsibility associated with growing up. Being an “adult” has its upside, but those are packaged with sacrifices that can take the best out of you. This is why I went snowboarding in Argentina last summer with South America Snow Sessions. My trip to SASS was a long awaited remedy for my worn and beaten adult psyche. Riding new terrain with new & old friends recharged my mind, body, and spirit. Life’s tough man – you’ve got to bring it everyday. Thankfully the chance to hang in beautiful Bariloche, Argentina and ride an amazing mountain with incredible pros and great new friends is accessible and worth the time and money.
