While reading 'Combining Print and Digital Ad Content with QR Barcodes', couldn't help but think of the applications this has on urban youth market. I mean can you really think of a better tool designed to educate or engage a consumer who knows little about your product or service? Magazines tend to be the initial and most accessible media outlet to lifestyle 'aspirationalists' out there...
Millennial youth's affinity for all things digital is well known by now...I've argued it would be pivotal for brands to devise a coordinated digital strategy built around cultural intelligence. The pieces are in place to connect with aspirational bicultural/bilingual urban youth segment, cause they really are looking for the content that introduces them to a new world. On top of it all, because these efforts live digitally, tools are emerging to that conversion rates and monitor whether clicks on ads.
ScanLife started working with Transworld SNOWboarding, Brad Steward at Bonfire, and Kevin Winkel at K2 Snowboarding in an effort to bridge print and digital advertising reach. The image above has barcode in the lower left image that redirects a mobile user to a branded video clip. Potential for retail oriented integrations is tremendous...
Both companies see this technology as a way to change advertising and attract consumers in the future. Winkel says it’s very intriguing to be able to use one code, and then consistently change the content, passing off information to consumers by using sales tools and even products; “In the end it is another tool we can use and something that has definitely changed how we create our interactive media and the direct tie between that and our print materials."
Will this be your year to end the excuses?
Looks like Latin American inspired snow content may finally be moving up the chain of digital consumption at ESPN Deportes. The acquisition and development of alternative Spanish-language content is something being explored and likely to increase moving forward. Very interested to see how much exposure the Argentina Snowboard Tour (AST) gets as a result of being highlighted on ESPN+.
As content like this get disseminated, it would be fascinating to understand and track its reach within the North American Latino audience...

One thing I noticed while in Argentina recently is the role of food during the on snow experience. Good eats like a Lomito, Choripan, and Milanesa sandwich all left a memorable impression. This Burton Argentina event is a great example of the cultural relevancy food has in bringing folks together to ride...
I had an awesome conversation this morning with of Signal rep down here (Snowboard Patagonia). It reaffirmed why my trip to Bariloche, Argentina was a step back in time. It's what snowboarding was like in the early nineties in the United States. An era filled with creative drive, energy, and enthusiasm.
This pic from Signal Argentina really personifies this sentiment. People are making their scene happen down here with limited resources. Using everything available to them to live the lifestyle. Its been very refreshing, and a reminder of why I still ride after all these years...Creativity rules the world! Viva la nieve!
"We got everything, Hi Def cams, Grego Campi from BQProductions, boards, dirt and some snow. Friends Mark Salas (Spain), Massaguer(Spain), then Manu Dominguez (Signal Arg) on his OG and myself on my brand new Park Series.
Almost everything, we didn't have a spot for filming. So after going around the mechanic shops at the base of Cerro Catedral we found this kind of dirt cliff spot, the guys decided to bury a pole on the lip of it and after many hours of work with the sun sinking we started the jam.
At the beginning the compression was hard, couple times after trying we stomped some good ones Manu got some fronts blunt 270 out, front 180 melon and tried some 450 out the pole, and I got a smooth fs 360 and happier after I stomped a switch 50-50 ollie of the pole. Perfect fun day!"
